ONE ANSWER

ADOPT-A-FAMILY

Dede and I have thought and thought
about those among us who don't have enough to eat
or clothes to wear.
We think that we have one answer and maybe
we'll come up with another later.
Our idea is this:
since I am adopted, and it has worked out very well
for both Dede and me,
we think that we could adopt a family.
We don't mean they should live with us,
but we could help them with food and clothes
Once a week, we could go to the store and
buy things like cereal and milk and fruit
and especially things that children would like.
We think it would be nice to pick out tee shirts and jeans
for them to wear.
These things don't cost a lot and we have so much and
we need to share our good things
that The Creator has given us.
We know that lots of churches do this
and that's wonderful,
but they shouldn't have to do it all.
We have a family in mind to adopt.
Do you? Will you?
Adoption is a good thing.
Just look at me and Dede.
We'll let you know how our next adoption turns out.
Until then,
Love from Me. Mab.

  2. Mab here: I adopted you when I adopted Dede several years ago. Dede and I will feed you anytime you need food and we have clothes for you to wear, also. Please come to see us and learn more of your adoption. Love from Me. Mab.

  3. We love what you're doing. Ellen asked me to tell you about a program she helps with at Mo Deb's old high school. Every Friday afternoon, kids whose only dependable source of nutrition are school free breakfast and lunch programs are given a plain backpack full of non-perishable, ready to eat foods to see them through the weekend. In our school district this "Got your back(pack)" program actually started at "the other high school" out of a brainstorming session by their student council. Versions of the program are in place at most of the district's schools. At the high schools the backpacks are filled by special ed classes, giving those students a way to make an important contribution to fellow students. At every age level the recipients are anonymous. Ellen's dream is that at the elementary level a book (to keep) could go home with each child along with the food every week.
